Reuters ran an interesting article today about non-U.S. actors getting roles, even major roles, in this year’s pilot season. The author references Fox’s pilot Masterwork, and how an unknown Australian actor landed one of the central roles in the project.
What the article did not mention however was that Fox TV uses Cast It for all of their pilots, allowing them to easily view auditions and reels from all over the planet. Local casting directors are typically hired in Australia, Canada, and London and are then linked directly into the individual pilots so that they can upload actors, auditions and reels. Within minutes of an actor being filmed in Sydney, that audition can be viewed by the entire casting team, and then by the studio and network that need to review and ultimately approve that actor. With Cast It, time sensitive casting decisions can be made in minutes, rather than in days.
